Oxygen Absorbers for Pharmaceutical Packaging

Oxygen Absorbers are a handy way of increasing shelf-life of packaged food & pharmaceutical products. As the name suggests an "Oxygen Absorber" work on the principle of removing oxygen gas from controlled packaging environment. Lowered levels of oxygen directly improve the shelf-life of packaged food products stored at room temperature.  In pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and other packaged drug industry, lowered levels of oxygen means drugs that are normally prone to oxidative degradation will remain stable for a long period of time.
Oxygen Absorbers
Oxygen absorber packets employs chemical reaction between ferrous powder and oxygen gas to create ferric oxide. A strong affinity for oxygen, and low reactivity to other gasses, makes elemental Iron most suitable for such application. By this means oxygen gas can indefinitely be reduce to relatively low levels in packaged goods. The Ferric powder and other constitutes like salts and chelates that support the reduction process are encased in a poly pouch which allows for gas exchange to take place. Such pouch has capacity to remove oxygen, throughout the shelf-life of the packaged product, as long as, there is ferrous powder readily available for oxidation.
