Oxygen elimination by use of porous absorbers

Oxygen is needed by all living beings as it is the one component of air that carries out the process of respiration. However it can be a damaging component to several food stuffs and metals where it forms free radicals that react to produce harmful compounds. Oxygen can be removed from the vicinity of food stuffs and other materials by placing oxygen absorbers with them. There are several desiccants available in the markets that keep harmful oxygen at bay. These are available in the form of packs and stripes. By usage of these materials, putrefaction of food stuffs can be checked and preservation is achieved without use of expensive methods like gas flushing and vacuum sealing. In this way, manufacturers can save millions of dollars worth food stuff that would otherwise require costly preservation that often involves preservatives and expensive treatment.
